Joan Plumley

Joan Laster Plumley, 80, of Spartanburg, SC, died Thursday, October 8, 2015, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born July 16, 1935, in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late Taylor E. and Carrie Thacker Laster and widow of Othell Plumley. Mrs. Plumley was a member of Beaumont Baptist Church and retired from Mayfair Mills. Surviving are her children, Johnny L. Mathis of Chesnee, SC, Michael E. Mathis, Sr. of Spartanburg, SC, Pamela K. Smithwick of Jenison, Alabama, and Karen R. Smithwick of Mableton, GA; 50 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; brother, Caroll Laster of Lincolnton, NC; and sister, Brenda Sprouse of Spartanburg, SC. She was predeceased by her son, Bruce W. Mathis. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, October 13, 2015, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by Pastor Jeremy Solesbee.
