Joan Hill Petry

Joan Hill Petry, 86, of Spartanburg, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at Prisma Health-Greenville Memorial Hospital. Joan was born on January 30, 1938, in Charleston, WV, a daughter of the late Dennis C. and Gatha Jones Hill.  She was the loving wife of the late Henry William “Bill” Petry.

Joan attended Marshall University. She very much enjoyed serving and caring for others. She was a longtime, faithful volunteer for The Charles Lea Center and St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.  

She loved her home state of West Virginia, the mountains of North Carolina, and the beach at Pawley’s Island.

Joan is survived by her two cherished daughters, Denyse Caroline Petry and Susan Elizabeth Petry, both of Spartanburg: as well as cousins, nieces and nephews. Along with her husband and parents, she was predeceased by an infant son, William Foster Petry; her brothers, Paul and Robert Hill; and her sister, Bernice Bowers.

 A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the Historic St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 161 N. Dean St., Spartanburg, SC 29302, conducted by the Rev. David R. Whitman.  Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.

Denyse and Susan would like to thank Dr. Joshua Smith, the Neuro-ICU nurses, and the hospice team at Greenville Memorial Hospital for the compassionate care of their mom.
