Naomi Joan Vassey Jenkins Ferguson, 89, of Spartanburg, died Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born December 27, 1922, in Knoxville, TN, she was the widow of Fred Ray Ferguson and daughter of the late Ernest and Arizona Merle Brandle Vassey. Mrs. Ferguson was a member of Arkwright First Baptist Church and served as secretary to Whitney Baptist Church. Surviving are her daughter, Merle J. Higgins of Forest City, NC, son, James "Jimmy" Jenkins of Rutherfordton, NC, daughter, Linda J. Carver of Shelby, NC, and son, Harry Jenkins and his wife Hazel of the home; stepson, Randy Ferguson of Gaffney, SC; 8 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and second husband, she was also predeceased by her first husband, Reverend Monroe W. Jenkins; and two grandchildren. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM Friday, December 14, 2012, in the sanctuary at Arkwright First Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, at the church, conducted by the Rev. James Blackwood. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
