Joan Barnhardt

Joan Peninger Barnhardt, 90, of Spartanburg, SC died Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Eden Terrace of Spartanburg. Born February 21, 1932 in Concord, NC, she was the daughter of the late Ralph L. and Annie MaeMiller Peninger and was the wife of the late Robert Owens Barnhardt.

Joan was a 1954 graduate of Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Charlotte, NC. She retired from the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Salisbury, NC after 30 years of service. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her sister, Cora P. Chambers of Spartanburg, SC; her brother-in-law, Ralph A. Barnhardt of Concord, NC; her sister-in-law, Pauline Rusk of Chillicothe, IL; along with nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, James M. Peninger.

A Graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, April 28, 2022 in Oakwood Cemetery, 471 Church Street N., Concord, NC 28025.
