Jo Alyce Shook passed away on October 21, 2024, at the age of 73. Born on September 16, 1951, in Spartanburg, South Carolina to the late Walter Clyde Crain and Selma Greene Crain.
Jo Alyce enjoyed a career in the banking industry, where she dedicated her life to serving her community. She also served as a commissioner for the Drayton Fire Department, reflecting her commitment to public service.
A graduate of Spartanburg High School, Jo Alyce furthered her education at Spartanburg Technical College, which equipped her with the skills for a successful career. Jo Alyce was an active and devoted member of the church community, having grown up attending Drayton Baptist Church and later became a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church.
Her warm and caring personality was shown in her selfless nature; Jo Alyce or 'Nana' lived for her grandchildren, whom she adored. Jo Alyce was known for her kindness and generosity, consistently putting the needs of others before her own. She found great joy in cooking, entertaining, and sharing with those she loved. The holiday season held a special place in her heart, as she eagerly counted down the days until Christmas each year. Jo Alyce cared so much for others, she would always take time to send cards for every occasion for family and friends.
Jo Alyce is survived by her daughter, Lacy White (James) of Spartanburg, and her son Luther Shook II (Jan) also of Spartanburg. She cherished being a Nana to Claire White, Wyatt Shook, and Trey Shook. Jo Alyce is also remembered by her extended family and many friends.
She was predeceased by her husband Mitch Shook after 50 years of marriage, her sister Judy Walker, and her parents. Jo Alyce leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will continue to inspire all that had the privilege of knowing her.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 am - 10:45 am on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E Main St, Spartanburg SC 29307.
The memorial service will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, services to be officiated by the Rev. Keith Davis.
