Jo Ann Perkins Respess

Jo Ann Perkins Respess was born in Macon, Georgia in the Spring of 1943 to the surprise of adoring parents, Thomas C. and Mary Perkins. The youngest of four children and the only girl, Jo Ann could rarely do wrong despite a mischievous side that revealed itself from time to time.

Jo Ann made it her life’s mission to serve those who were underprivileged, the young, the teen mothers, and those living with mental health issues. This caring work ethic carried over into her retirement years where it was manifested through the various volunteer positions in which she served. Giving back to her community while serving the less fortunate with respect, understanding, acceptance, and compassion was a goal she always strove to meet.

Jo Ann was an active member of Nazareth Presbyterian Church where she met many who quickly became lifelong and dear friends.

In addition to her passion for her friendships, Jo Ann was an avid reader, supporter of the Arts, and thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors. She will always be remembered for her genuine and compassionate understanding of others, her deep love for her family and friends, and a quirky sense of humor that would drag a laugh out of anyone. Jo Ann had an innate ability to make one feel comfortable, accepted, and would display a deep interest in whomever she was talking with.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her father, Thomas C. Perkins, mother Mary Perkins, eldest brother Thomas Perkins Jr., and middle brother, James (Jim) Perkins. 

Jo Ann is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Herb Respess, beloved son, Hub Respess (Christy), beloved daughter, Jennifer Respess (James), her brother Alfred Perkins (Barbara), several nieces and nephews, and many friends, all of whom she adored.

 Inurnment will be held at the Nazareth Presbyterian Church at a later date.
