Jimmie Charles Tate, 79, of Boiling Springs, died Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born April 7, 1932, in Rutherford County, NC, he was the son of the late Tom and Marie Watkins Tate. Mr. Tate attended Harris School in Harris, NC, Cecil's Business College in Spartanburg, and was a U. S. Navy veteran during the Korean War. He was retired, with 27 years of service, from the U. S. Postal Service as a mail carrier and was a former police officer with the city from 1958-1965. A member of Peach Valley Baptist Church, he served as a deacon and on various committees. A loving Christian husband, father, and grandfather, he will be remembered by surviving family members that include his wife, Shirley Hoyle Tate; two sons, David and Duane Tate, both of Spartanburg; five grandchildren, Jimmie II, Breanna, Alec, and Abigail Tate, and Matthew Russell; sisters, Jean Thomason of Lake Greenwood, Faye Smith and husband Howard, Jolayne Towery, Judy Radford and husband Al, all of Forest City, NC; brothers, Donald Tate and wife Tamara and Ray Tate, all of Forest City, NC; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Tate; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Helen Tate McGaha and Dorcas "Dot" Tate; and a brother Max Wellington Tate. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM Thursday, April 21, 2011 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM in the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Perrin Powell. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Peach Valley Church Building Fund, 105 Burns Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307; or Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
