Jimmie Wise Alman Gable, 94, of Roebuck, died Tuesday, September 15, 2009, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born June 11, 1915, in Jonesville, SC, she was the daughter of the late James Humphrey and Maggie High Alman and the wife of the late Levi Edward "L. E." Gable. A graduate of Columbia High School, she received BA and MA degrees from the University of South Carolina and was a retired teacher with Spartanburg School District 6 after 40 years of service, having taught English, typing, and bookkeeping. She was a former member of the SC Education Association, the National Education Association, and the Spartanburg Education Association, a former associate girl's basketball coach, the first publisher of the Roebuck High School Yearbook, and a former publisher of the Fairforest High and Dorman High School yearbooks. She was a member of Roebuck Baptist Church, a member and former teacher of the Fidelis Sunday School Class, and a member and former treasurer of the Roebuck Garden Club. Survivors include two sons, Larry Alman Gable of Roebuck, and Harry Latham Gable of Spartanburg; two granddaughters, Kylie M. Gable of Spartanburg, and Beth Foster of Roebuck; four grandsons, Brik McCutcheon of Boiling Springs, Levi Franklin Gable of Columbia, Chip Key of Stone Station, and Phillip Key of Roebuck; and a great-grandson, Stephen Jude Foster of Roebuck. Visitation will be 2:45-3:45 p.m. Friday, September 18, 2009, at Roebuck Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 p.m. at the Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Tim Williams. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Ken Hanna, Bob Tolleson, Ronnie Garner, Wayne Roberson, Brian Compton, and Joey Brown.
