Jessie Mae Staggs Poteat, 90, formerly of 106 Hillside Dr., Spartanburg, passed peacefully at her home Friday, November 28, 2014. Miss Jessie was born June 4, 1924 in Woodruff and reared in the Flatwood community, a daughter of the late David Smily and Josie Carter Staggs and was the wife of the late Arthur Ervin Poteat. She was a member of Carolina Baptist Church, and a homemaker who loved her family and enjoyed her yard and flowers. She is survived by five children, Gary Poteat of Landrum, SC, Ronnie Poteat of Piedmont, Terry Poteat of Twin City, GA, Janice Otoski of Piedmont, and Debra Shealy of Inman. She had many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Edward Poteat. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Visitation will be 12:00-1:30 PM Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow in the chapel at 2:00 PM, conducted by the Rev. Marc Williamson. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family is at their respective homes.
