Jessie "The Queen" Cook Mixon

Jessie Cook Mixon, 92, passed away surrounded by family on March 19th, 2025. Born on February 20, 1933, in Drums, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Harry and Myrtle Cook. She attended Columbia Union College in Washington, D.C., earning a bachelor’s degree in nursing- a career that she would excel in. She moved to Spartanburg, South Carolina where she worked for years as the head nurse for Doctor Harold Moody. She would later meet and marry Rudolph Benjamin Mixon Jr. in 1961, and soon they had their two children, Benjy and Becky. She was dedicated to her family and in retirement greatly enjoyed her grandchildren and later great-grandchildren, between spending summers in Colorado with her husband in their motorhome.

Along with her parents, Jessie is predeceased by her husband of 58 years Benny Mixon; brothers, Harry and Gerald Cook, and a sister Eleanor McKenzie.

She is survived by her son Rudolph Benjamin “Benjy” Mixon III (Kim) and Rebecca Garver (Greg)- along with grandchildren Zac Cobb (Spencer), Aspen Mixon, and Cheyenne Mixon, and great-grandchildren Elowen and Ewan Childers.

The memorial service to honor Jessie’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at The J.F. Mortuary North Church Street Chapel, 235 N. Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306. The family will greet friends following the service.

Flowers will be accepted or in memory of Jessie, donations may be made to the Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System Hospice Home at 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303
