Jessie Clyde Mason, 78, of 212 Scenic Circle, died Thursday, August 20, 2009, at his home. Born November 10, 1930, in Boaz, AL, he was the son of the late Homer Kadell and Florence Collins Mason. A graduate of Fairforest High School, he was retired from Spartan Mills, Montgomery Plant, in Chesnee with 29 + years of service. A U.S. Army Veteran, he was retired from the National Guard after 20 years of service. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church for over 50 years where he was a member of the Men's Fellowship Sunday School Class, a former Deacon, and a choir member. He was a Mason for 35 years, a member of Arcadia Masonic Lodge #285, Knights of Templar, Upstate National Guard Retirees Association, and a volunteer with the Saxon Fire Department. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Taylor Mason; a daughter, Kay M. Richards and her husband Bruce of Mauldin; a son, Joel Clyde Mason of the home; two brothers, Homer A. Mason of Fairforest, and Jack O. Mason and his wife Faye of Pacolet; two sisters, Evelyn Parton and her husband Deavon, and Earline Mason, all of Spartanburg; two grandsons, Jason Richards of Simpsonville, and Preston Richards of Atlanta, GA; a great-grandson, Taylor Richards of Callahan, FL; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Donald Ray Mason. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday, August 22, 2009, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 23, 2009, at Grace Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Henry Johnson, the Rev. Edwin H. Bolton, the Rev. Dr. James W. Crocker, and the Rev. Clegg Taylor. Burial with full military honors will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church, 821 Whitlock Street, Spartanburg, SC 29301; or to SRMC Hospice Special Needs Fund, 120 Heywood Avenue, Suite 300, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
