Jesse Terrier"..

September 13, 1926 — October 24, 2013

Born in Gaffney, SC and lived in Spartanburg, SC. Jesse was the 13th child born to the late John Graham Davis and Nora D. Davis of Gaffney, SC. Jesse had three children. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark. He is survived by a daughter, Carol Sherman of Travelers Rest, SC, and a son, Jason Boyd Davis of Rockford, IL. In addition, he had four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was the retired Chief Executive Officer of Y.C. Ballenger Electrical Contractors of Spartanburg where he served for 40+ years. In addition, he was the Owner of Jesse B. Davis, Inc. Jesse was a long standing member and usher of Southside Baptist Church in Spartanburg. More recently, he moved his membership to First Baptist Church of Spartanburg. He knew and believed God forgives and gave his Son for him. He forgave, was forgiven and prayed often. Jesse loved football, dancing and music. His undying love for the Wofford Terriers will live on forever. He served as President of the Terrier Club and was awarded the Distinguished Service Award and the Iron Terrier Award. The Wofford Athletic Department inducted Jesse into the Hall of Fame in 1987 making him an Honorary Letterman. In addition, The Jesse B. Davis Family Endowed Scholarship Award is given to deserving participants in football and basketball. He was also a key figure in fundraising for the Terrier Club and scholarships at Wofford. Jesse served his country in the Navy in World War II and the Korean War. A private military graveside service was held in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The SC State Guard 2nd Brigade Honors Team led by Colonel Ballard C. Brown led the service with Jesse's longtime faithful friend Brigadier General Ed Hall presenting the flag to the family. The service was held Saturday during a Wofford football game, with his son Jason remarking earlier, "Now Dad has the best seats in the house." Jesse led a full life, passing peacefully in the Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson, SC. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The American Diabetes Association, 119 Eastwood Circle, Spartanburg, SC 29302; and/or The Salvation Army, PO Drawer 2909, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
