Jerry Belcher

Jerry Belcher, 79, of Cowpens, died Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at his home. Born October 20, 1931, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Alma Belcher. Mr. Belcher was a U. S. Navy veteran and served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church-Cowpens, retired from Converse College after 17 years of service in Public Safety and Security, and worked as a supervisor for Fiber Industries for 18 years. Survivors include his loving wife, Connie Ruth Garner Belcher of the home; a son, Richard (Denise) Belcher of Duncan; daughters, Cindy Sloan and Wendy M. Belcher, both of Duncan, Cindy (Bill) Kirkland of Pauline, and Cathy (Jack) Jones-Zimmerman of Spartanburg; nine grandchildren, Megan (Scott) Watts, MacKenzie (Ryan) Oates, Jordan McGahee, April (Sha) Butler, Brian (Heather) Cox, Justin Kirkland, Jacob Kirkland, Lindsey Jones, and John Gavin Jones; and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Bill Belcher. Visitation will be 1:00-2:45 PM Friday, July 15, 2011 in Mt. Olive Baptist Church-Cowpens. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM, in the church, by the Rev. Delos Blanton and Dr. Robert Kirby, Jr. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum.
