Jeremy Antonio Sailem, 16, of 113 Elderberry Drive, died suddenly on Sunday afternoon, September 6, 2009. Born February 10, 1993, in Valdosta, GA, he was the son of Calvin Antonio "Tony" and Alicia Montejano Sailem of the home. Moving to Spartanburg in 1998, he was currently a Junior at Spartanburg High School where he was active in basketball and track. A devout Christian, Jeremy was baptized on January 11, 2004, becoming a faithful member of Fernwood Baptist Church. He was an active participant in the church's Passport Mission trips to New Orleans following Katrina, and most recently to Boston just this past summer. He was a volunteer at the Soup Kitchen at Second Presbyterian Church, Habitat for Humanity, and "Feed the Community" at Thanksgiving. Jeremy loved his family, friends, church, and his Lord. One of his greatest ambitions was to follow in his father's footsteps by going into engineering. Surviving in addition to his parents is his sister, Brianna Alyssa Sailem of the home; his maternal grandparents, Rudy and Eloisa Montejano of Tanhuato, Mexico; his paternal grandparents, Leroy and Velma Eady of Valdosta, GA, and Bob Sailem of Hazelhurst, GA; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his girlfriend, Brendel Styles of Spartanburg. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 10, 2009, at Fernwood Baptist Church. A Celebration of His Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 12, 2009, at Fernwood Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Dean Allen, the Rev. Dr. Lisa Allen, and the Rev. Stuart Jones. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
