Jeremiah Smith

Jeremiah (Jake) Leonard Smith, 80, of 657 Archer Road, died Saturday, January 22, 2011, at White Oak Manor. Born May 18, 1930, in the Friendship Community, he was a son of the late Claude W. and Annie Wofford Smith and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was first married to the late Lukeva Pettit Smith. Mr. Smith was retired from American Rockwell, Draper Division and was a member of Whitney Masonic Lodge. He was also a Shriner and a member of Friendship Baptist Church and attended First Baptist of Spartanburg. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife, Cora Cloninger Walker Smith; two stepsons, David L. Walker of Cliffside, NC and Phillip E. Walker and wife Patty of Spartanburg; step-grandchildren, Katie Walker, Karen Ingersoll and husband Nathan, and Nathan Walker and wife Casey. He was predeceased by five sisters, Arrie Smith, Evelyn Smith, Nora Lee Smith, Claudia O'Shields, and Mae Ellen Blanton; and four brothers, Hugh, Walter, Paul, and Ronald Smith. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 p.m. Monday, January 24, 2011, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Bruce Russell. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 16-A Brozzini Court, Greenville, SC 29615.
