Jennie Hughes Sandlin West, 88, formerly of Startex, died Thursday, October 21, 2010 at Park Place Assisted Living. Born October 28, 1921 in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late Joe David Hughes, Sr. and Annie Henderson Hughes. She was first married to the late Edward S. Sandlin and then to the late Jesse Ernest West, Jr. She retired from Startex Mill Store after 25 years of service and was a member of Startex United Methodist Church. She loved her Lord, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Survivors include two sons, Jesse Ernest West, III and Robin Erlic West and wife Melba, all of Startex; three daughters, Joy Sandlin Galloway and husband John of Roebuck, Pamela West Wheeler and Dianne West Rogers and husband Ronald, all of Moore; a sister, Reva Hughes Watson of Spartanburg; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Etrulia Hughes Bowers; and four brothers, Roy, J. D., Walter, and Floyd Hughes. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by Dr. William Pate. Visitation will follow the service at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Park Place Assisted Living, 2720 Country Club Road, Spartanburg, SC 29302; or to Mt. Calvary Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 1399 Walnut Grove Road, Roebuck, SC 29376. The family is at their respective homes.
