Jeannette P. Kiefer, 86, died Friday, October 15, 2010, at Summit Hills. Born December 10, 1924, in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late Harkness and Margaret Jackson Persing, and grew up in Richmond, VA. She and her late husband, Edwin Avis Kiefer, spent most of their married life in Clearwater, FL and moved to Spartanburg over twenty years ago. She was a former secretary, interior decorator, and small business owner. Jeannette was an avid gardener and earned the title of Master Gardener from Clemson University when she was in her 70's. In addition to gardening, she enjoyed helping others through her volunteer work. She served with the Women's Auxiliary at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, FL. In Spartanburg, she was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and was a Docent for the Spartanburg Arts Council, of which she was named Docent of the Year. She did extensive volunteer work for Hatcher Garden and Woodland Preserve, where she particularly enjoyed conducting tours through the Garden for children and adults alike. Survivors include a daughter, Donna K. Fagan and husband Richard of Stephenville, TX; a son, Barry W. Kiefer of Clearwater, FL; and a grandson, Christopher M. Fagan of Stephenville, TX. She was predeceased by a sister, Eleanor Martin of Springfield, VA. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 19, 2010, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 22, 2010, at the Garden of Hope and Healing at Hatcher Garden and Woodland Preserve, 832 John B. White Sr. Boulevard, conducted by the Rev. Robert H. Brozina. The site is very accessible for handicapped guests.
