Jeannette Finkelstein

Jeannette Davidson Finkelstein, born May 17, 1919, in Columbia, SC, passed away in the Spartanburg Medical Center on November 26, 2014, after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Samuel and Tina Beinstock Davidson. Jeannette grew up in Greenville, SC, graduating from Greenville High School in 1936. After marrying in 1941, she moved to Spartanburg where she became an active member of Temple B'nai Israel. She was a prominent businesswoman for over 70 years operating Davidson's Department Store in Chesnee, SC, from where she retired in 2009. Jeannette was very proud of her community activities both in the Chesnee and Spartanburg communities. Her activities included being one of the founding members of the Chesnee Merchants' Association. She was also a member of the Upstate Chapter of Wildlife Action and the Spartan Chapter of the American Business Women's Association (ABWA). Surviving are her three children, Charles Finkelstein (Nancy) of Spartanburg, SC; Sam Finkelstein (Sandy) of Canton, OH; and Harriette Firestone (Steve) of Myrtle Beach, SC. Also surviving are six grandchildren; Jeffrey Firestone (Jodi), Michael Finkelstein (Tricia), Scotty Finkelstein (Colleen), Brett Finkelstein (Traci), Laura Allen (Josh), and Jessica Wright (Jake); and eight great- grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her husband, Jack P. Finkelstein (1957); and daughter, Ann Finkelstein (2009). Visitations will be 5:00-7:30 PM Monday, December 1, 2014, and 12:00-12:45 PM Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM Tuesday, at the Chapel, conducted by Rabbi Yossi Liebowitz. A short graveside service will follow at Beth Israel Cemetery (Graceland Cemetery), 4814 White Horse Road, Greenville, SC 29611.
