Jeanette Waters

Jeanette Schreiber Waters, 89, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died peacefully on Saturday, November 20, 2010, at Brighton Gardens of Greenville, SC, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Born on August 22, 1921, in Union, Mo, she was the daughter of the late Frank Michael and Susanna Jenny Schreiber. She was raised by her late aunt and uncle due to the death of her parents during her childhood. During World War II, Jeanette worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C. It was there that she met her future husband of 61 years, Raymond S. Waters, who was serving with the United States Marine Corps. The couple married after the war on December 14, 1945. Jeanette and Raymond moved to Spartanburg, SC in 1950. In addition to raising four children, she enjoyed spending time with her many lifelong friends in Spartanburg, and sharing her later years with her husband, Raymond, at their home on Hilton Head Island. Jeanette was a faithful and devoted member of Central United Methodist Church in Spartanburg, and was active in its Miriam-Ruth Women's Circle for many years. She was a supporter of several charities, including Spartanburg Humane Society and Mobile Meals of Spartanburg. Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, who passed away on October 15, 2007. Jeanette is survived by her daughter, Jeanne W. Littlejohn of Oakton, VA; sons, Raymond S. Waters, Jr. of Leawood KS, John M. Waters of Greenville, SC, and Dr. Robert C. Waters of Easley, SC; six grandchildren, Susan Littlejohn, Michael Littlejohn, Jeffrey Littlejohn, Karla Waters, Kathleen Waters Rhine, and Raymond S. Waters, III; and two great-grandchildren, Gina Littlejohn, and Celeste Kraus. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 23, 2010, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Spartanburg, conducted by the Rev. Luther H. Rickenbaker, III. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 233 North Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306.
