Mrs. Jean Singletary Wood, age 80, a resident of the Walnut Grove area of Spartanburg County, passed away on February 5, 2015 at her residence, following a brief illness. Mrs. Wood was born January 2, 1935 in Columbus, GA, the daughter of the late William Walter Singletary, III and Lyra Margaret Matthews Singletary. Mrs. Wood was a registered nurse, local business owner, and avid gardener. She moved to Spartanburg from Timmonsville, SC to attend College at the Spartanburg General Hospital School of Nursing, maintaining residency in Spartanburg since that time. Survivors include three sons, James C. Wood Jr. and wife Karin, Michael Dennis Wood and wife Connie, and Robert Allan Wood, all of Spartanburg; two daughters, Pamela Wood Few of Spartanburg and Jacey Lynn Wood and partner Sally Campbell of Atlanta, GA; one sister, Libby Jeffords of Florence, SC; two brothers, Bill Singletary of Timmonsville, SC and Robert Singletary of Darlington, SC; nine grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James C. Wood Sr.; sisters, Joann Saverance of Florence, SC and Frances Starling of Dothan Ala. The family will host a reception for visitation and fellowship 11:00 AM-12:30 PM Saturday, February 7, 2015, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 PM in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, with The Reverend Chris Snelgrove of Walnut Grove United Methodist Church presiding.
