Jean Smith

Jean Hunter Smith, 87, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, February 20, 2017, at Summit Hills Retirement Community. Born August 25, 1929, in Woodruff, SC, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Hobart Calvin and Shirley Francis Wood Hunter and widow of Kenneth Ray Smith. Mrs. Smith loved her family very much. She was a member of Morningside Baptist Church, the Ruth Sunday School Class, enjoyed singing in the choir, and was a former member of Cedar Spring Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Woodruff High School and retired from Whitestone Chemical Company. Survivors include a son, Phillip Hunter Smith (Cynthia) of Lexington, SC; grandchildren, Catherine Smith Sullivan (Ted) and Hunter Elizabeth Smith, all of Mt. Pleasant, SC; sister, Nancy Hunter Yown (Rev. Bill) of Campobello, SC; nephew, Jason Yown (Darlene) of Charleston, SC; and niece, Kayla Yown Copleston (David) of Campobello, SC. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Kenneth Mark Smith. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM Thursday, February 23, 2017, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by The Rev. Jack Dodds. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Morningside Baptist Church, 897 South Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302. The family is at their respective homes.
