Jean Stephens Harwell, of Moore, SC, passed on to Heaven June 10, 2014 after a brief battle with cancer, surrounded by her family. "Miss Jean", as she was known by many children, was the owner of Jean's Hawaiian Shaved Ice stand for 20 years. She was a summertime fixture on Reidville Road and looked forward all winter to opening day in April, often only closing when it rained. She found great joy watching children enjoy her cups of shaved ice with as many flavors as they wanted. Jean was born in Seneca, SC, she was the daughter of the late Janie Watson Stephens and Willie B. Stephens of Seneca, SC. She was of the Baptist faith. Jean is survived by her husband of 49 years, J.P. Harwell; a daughter, Denise Harwell of Boiling Springs, SC; and a son, Doug (Karen) Harwell of Inman, SC; two brothers, James Stephens (Sandra) of Seneca, SC and Walter Stephens of Troutman, NC. She was predeceased by sisters, Olivia McCall and Beatrice Durham; and brother, Ed Stephens. Visitation will be 2:00-2:45 PM Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by Dr. Reggie Parker.
