Jean Galt

June 22, 1930 — March 26, 2022

Jean Edwards Galt, 91, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 26, 2022. Born in MacBeth, SC on June 22, 1930, she was the daughter of the late John O. and Janie Jones Edwards. The family moved to Moncks Corner, SC when Jean was six years old.

She was a graduate of Berkeley High School in Moncks Corner, Lander College and studied medical technology at MUSC, where she met her sweetheart, Tom as her lab partner. She was a homemaker, an amazing Mom, and a wonderful cook. She loved her Lord Jesus and was a faithful member of Bethel Assembly of God, until Covid, when she started watching First Baptist Church at home. She held many offices in the churches that she attended through the years, medical auxiliary and bridge clubs. But cooking for her family and friends was her real gift, along with caring for the elderly as a CNA. She especially enjoyed watching her backyard birds and her Atlanta Braves – but I’m sure she’ll be catching a few Dodger games now!

Jean is the last of her immediate family, and is survived by her children, Rosemary Galt and Hutch Galt (Beth) of Charleston, SC, a granddaughter, Megan Galt, grandson, Kyle Galt, a special nephew, John “Butch” Howard of Moncks Corner, SC, who our family called her first son, along with nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Tom T. Galt, son, Rusty Galt, grandson, Matthew Galt, three sisters and two brothers.

A Celebration of Life graveside service will be at 1:00 pm, Saturday, April 2, 2022 (almost opening day for Major League Baseball, which would have been most appropriate) in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by The Rev. Wally Sharpe of Summerville, SC. The family will receive friends briefly at the graveside after the service, then go to her home on Hillbrook Drive for a reception given by Rosemary’s friends and neighbors of The Arbours.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303 or to the charity of your choice.
