Jean Croes

August 25, 1917 — January 15, 2016

Jean Fraser Robertson Croes, 98, of Spartanburg, SC passed away Friday, January 15, 2016. Born in Westerly, RI, she was the eldest daughter of the late David and Jean Fraser Robertson and was predeceased by her husband, William Miller Croes. She was a graduate of Westerly High School and New London School of Business, New London, Connecticut. She became a resident of Spartanburg in 1965. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and attended the Bible Alive Class. She volunteered for many organizations over the years including the Crime Prevention Council and Mobile Meals. She had a great love for the theatre and was an active participant in the Spartanburg Little Theatre, as well as other local theatre groups. She was well-known for her multitude of onstage performances and also for her tireless work behind the scenes. Throughout her life, she enjoyed traveling, shopping, golfing, playing Bridge and Bunco, and spending time with her family and friends. It has been suggested that the secret to her longevity was a daily dose of white wine and Cheetos. She is survived by her four children, Jean (Richard) Danfy, Meg (Doug) Smith, Bill (Karen Moore) Croes, and Kathy (Steve) White; her grandchildren, Chris (Bryan) Overcarsh, Jean and Emily White, Lillie and Will Croes, and her great-grandchildren, Charles and Emmet Overcarsh; along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Caird and Jack Robertson, and Mary Catherine Roseman. Visitation will be held at 6:00 - 8:00 PM Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 393 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by the Rev. Joanne Hull. Memorials may be made to the Spartanburg Little Theatre, 200 E. St. John St., Spartanburg, SC 29306 or Mobile Meals Service, P.O. Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
