Janet Roberts Weir, 84 of Spartanburg died peacefully on October 10, 2014 at home surrounded by her family. She was born on January 29, 1930 in Charlotte, NC. She was the daughter of the late Forest Clyde and Lois Cooper Roberts of Gastonia, NC. Her husband, A. Frank Weir, Jr., MD, predeceased her. They had celebrated 59 years of marriage, having married on June 24, 1950. Her younger brother, John Ross Roberts of Gastonia, NC, also predeceased her. She is survived by her five children, eleven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. Her sons are David Frank Weir, Sr., MD (Kathy) and Richard Mark Weir, MD (Lisa) of Spartanburg County and Paul Daniel Weir, MD (Chiqui) of Agoura Hills, CA. Her daughters are Janet Weir Shaw (Jim) and Sandra Weir Williams (Donnie) also of Spartanburg County. Her grandchildren are David F. Weir, Jr. (Sarah), Stephen F. Shaw (Kim), Chris J. Weir, Sara S. Nicholas, MD (Peter), Anna S. Harmon (Drew), Christina M. Weir, Forest W. Weir, William H. Weir, Eric A. Weir, M. Annelise Weir, and Lois C. Boswell. She is also survived by her brother F. C. Roberts, Jr. (Diane), sister-in-law Aileen Roberts Ballenger and nine nieces and nephews. She attended Meredith College and graduated in 1951 from Salem College. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg where she was active in her circle. She was also active for many years in the Medical Alliance (formerly known as Auxiliary) of the Spartanburg County Medical Society having served as a past president. She was an active member of the Battle of Cowpens Chapter of the NSDAR. She was an avid duplicate bridge player and the director of the Kings and Queens Contract Bridge Club of Spartanburg for several decades. She attained the status of Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League and was an enthusiastic bridge instructor for over 30 years. In her younger years she was an accomplished golfer and avid fisherman. Janet and Frank loved to travel and visited many places playing bridge in international tournaments and for several years they cruised to many foreign ports as the ship's bridge instructors. She embraced life and loved her family and friends deeply. All her grandchildren knew her as Mimi. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 14, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A Celebration of Life service will be on Wednesday October 15, 2014 at 11:00 am at First Presbyterian Church, 393 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302, conducted by the Rev.'s L. Craig Foster and the Rev. Joanne Hull. Interment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
