Janet Martin Turney Bradburn

Janet Martin Turney Bradburn, 89, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. She was born in Blacksburg, SC, to Mildred and Dewey Martin. She was predeceased by her parents, brother, Lawrence, daughter, Meredith Turney Harvel and son, Richard Turney; her first husband, Pete Turney and second husband, Joe Bradburn.

She graduated from Winthrop College with a BS degree in Piano Performance. She also studied piano with Edwin Hughes of New York. Her master’s degree in Elementary Education was from Converse College. She taught piano for five years. After teaching first grade at Whitney and Chapman Elementary, she retired after 30 years. She served as pianist for several area churches.

Mrs. Bradburn enjoyed spending time with family and friends, music, reading and traveling. She was a member of Cudd Memorial Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, greeter, and a member of the shut-in committee.

Janet is survived by her grandchildren, Brandie Turney (Greg), Ashley Brady (Todd), Kenneth Turney (Lauren), Joshua Huey and Brittany Alvarez (Tyler). Great grandchildren, Jacob Chesney, Christopher, Isabella and Jazmine Huey, Addison and Titus Strange and Landon Turney.

Visitation will be 1:00-1:45PM, Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Cudd Memorial Baptist Church, 1301 Boiling Springs Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303. Funeral service will follow at 2:00PM conducted by the Rev. Kris Showen. Burial will be at Mt. Paran Baptist Church Cemetery, 105 Mt. Paran Road, Blacksburg, SC 29702.
