Jane Johnson

Jane Rankin Johnson, 89, of Spartanburg, passed away on Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at Summit Hills. Born May 30, 1920, in Charlotte, NC, she was the daughter of the late Charles Wade and Pearl Alexander Rankin and the wife of the late Ted R. Johnson whom she married in 1945. Raised in Charlotte, she graduated from Central High School and Queens College and was a former member of Myers Park Presbyterian Church. She was formerly employed with Southern Bell. She was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Advent where she served on the Altar Guild, the Spartanburg Lions Club, and the Battle of Cowpens Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Survivors include a daughter, Kathy J. Allen and husband Charles R. Allen of Spartanburg; a son, Ted R. Johnson, Jr. and wife Dianne Byrne of Chapel Hill, NC; and two grandsons, Charles "Chuck" Allen, Jr. and Matthew "Matt" Allen, both of Spartanburg. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 11, 2010, at The Episcopal Church of the Advent conducted by The Rev. Sue Perrin and The Rev. Dr. Clay H. Turner. Entombment will be in the Church Columbarium. A family reception will be held in the Parish and Family Life Center following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Episcopal Church of the Advent Altar Guild, 141 Advent Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302; or to the charity of one's choice. The family is at the home of her daughter, 123 Bagwell Farm Road, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
