Jane Clark

Jane Whitaker Clark, 94, of Summit Hills Drive, died Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at Summit Hills Retirement Community. A daughter of the late Dwight and Hazel Wiley Whitaker, she was born on July 10, 1923 in Clearwater, Florida. At the age of 20, Jane joined the U. S. Navy and was assigned to the U. S. Naval Air Stations in Vero Beach and Ft. Lauderdale, FL. After being discharged from the Navy, she moved to Spartanburg and worked at Converse College in the Registrar's Office for several years before joining and working for the U.S. Naval Reserve Unit. Jane later became the secretary to her future husband, Wyndham Stokes Clark, at The Piedmont National Bank. A member of the Episcopal Church of the Advent, Jane enjoyed traveling all around the world, be it by plane, car, motorcycle, or ship. Some of her favorite travels included a trip to see the Great Wall of China, sailing through the Scandinavian countries and touring New Zealand and Australia. Jane was predeceased by her husband, Wyndham Stokes Clark; a step-son, W. Stokes Clark Jr.; a sister, Nellie Whitaker Petree; and two brothers, Dwight Whitaker, Jr. and James Wiley Whitaker. She is survived by a step-son, Shelby V.T. Clark of Spartanburg; a step daughter, Carol Clark Gentry of Columbia, SC; a sister, Martha W. Snow of Dunedin, FL; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. A service to worship God and celebrate Jane's life will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, February 3, 2018, at the Episcopal Church of the Advent, 141 Advent St., Spartanburg, SC 29302. The burial will be in the Whitaker Pioneer Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida at a later date. In keeping with Jane's wishes, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals Service, P. O.
