Jamie O'Connell

Jamie Love McKinney O'Connell, 94, of Spartanburg, SC, wife of the late J. Fred O'Connell, died on Monday, December 21, 2020. Born in Spartanburg on February 20, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Clarence C. and Louise Hughes McKinney and the step-daughter of the late Bessie Templeton McKinney. She is survived by three children; Michael Frederick O'Connell and wife Susan, of Medford, Massachusetts, Julia O'Connell Claytor and husband, Frank, of Columbia, SC, and Patrick James O'Connell II of Oakland, California. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Lykes and Margaret Claytor. At an early age, Mrs. O'Connell moved to Simpsonville, SC, where she was reared and in 1965 moved to Spartanburg where she became an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She served as a teacher and leader of the pre-school Sunday School Department. She was active in Presbyterian Women, serving as a circle leader and on the board of Presbyterian Women. In 1992, Jamie was presented an Honorary Life Membership in Presbyterian Women. Also, she taught for many years in the Westminster Day School. To the children, she is lovingly remembered as "Miss Jamie". For over twenty years, Jamie was the coordinator for a route of Mobile Meals in Spartanburg. Serving Mobile Meals recipients was one of the joys of her life. Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 PM Sunday, December 27, 2020 in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307 by The Rev. Dale Rawlings.
