James “Jim” Thomas Yarborough, Jr., 88, of Inman, SC, passed away Monday, November 28, 2022 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills in Forest City, NC. Born June 17, 1934 in Greenwood, SC, he was the son of the late James Thomas Yarborough Sr. and Bertha Cornelia Kernells Yarborough.
A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Yarborough retired as a color expert in the textile industry for 40 yrs.
Jim was Carol's best friend, soulmate and the love of her life. Some of his favorite pastimes were spending time at North Myrtle Beach, which is where he and Carol met. Spending social time with special friends, many of whom he had been friends with for over 50 years. He loved yardwork, "piddling" around the house and he loved Christmas and decorating their home throughout.
"Papa Jim" always had words of wisdom and a story to tell. He was a quiet man with a dry and funny sense of humor. He was a calm to our chaos.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Carol Hayes Yarborough of the home.
His children, Denise Yarborough Thompson (Larry) of Pawley’s Island, SC and Romona Yarborough Rankin (Kelly) of Gastonia, NC; five grandchildren, Brandon Thompson (Natalie), Evan Rankin (Kristen), Jake Rankin, and Maggie Rankin; six great-grandchildren, Meris Thompson, Reese Thompson, Xander Rankin, Zoe Rankin, Marley Rankin, and Heidi Rankin.
Bonus children, Kelley Rimer (John) of Jacksonville, FL, Kenney Gowan (Rhonda) of Spartanburg, SC, and Kristen Adams (Mark) of Roebuck, SC; bonus grandchildren, Leslie Rimer, Nicholas Rimer, Lauren O’Dell (Hunter), Kurt Gowan, and Johnathon Adams; and bonus great-grandchild, Hudson O’Dell.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife of 44 years, Gail Barton Yarborough, and his brother, Phillip Yarborough.
