James Walton

Stan Walton, 62, of Boiling Springs, SC, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 6, 2013, at his home. Born August 14, 1951, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of Melba Lee Walton of Spartanburg, SC, and the late Alexander "Buck" Walton. Beloved son, brother, husband, and father, Stan was a gifted athlete. He excelled in boxing and baseball in his youth, signing a Major League Baseball contract with the now defunct Seattle Pilots. He played professionally for the minor league affiliate, the Billings Mustangs. At 24, he experienced a powerful encounter with Jesus Christ, and subsequently influenced numerous relatives and friends to follow Jesus. Full of youthful exuberance, Stan loved to make others smile and had the heart of a champion. Surviving is his beloved wife, Brenda Brady Walton; children, Brian Walton of Newburgh, IN, Mandy Lathan (Jamie) of Boiling Springs, SC, and Barry Walton (Michele) of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Katie Lathan and Kacie Lathan; brothers, Dave "Junior" Walton and Boyd Walton; sisters, Sue W. Wood and Kay W. Walden; and an aunt, Ann Lee. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM Thursday, October 10, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, in the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dave Walton and Mr. Barry Walton. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. The family is at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mandy and Jamie Lathan.
