James Woodfin Toney, 72, formerly of Moore, SC, died Sunday, December 6, 2015, at Summit Hills-Spartanburg. Born December 30, 1942, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Robert Lee Toney Jr. and Sarah Frances Lanford Toney and husband of the late Jan Middleton Toney. A family man and avid sports fan, Mr. Toney was a U. S. Army veteran and a member of Tyger River Presbyterian Church. He was a letter carrier for 27 years retiring from the U. S. Postal Service in Spartanburg and was president of the local chapter of the National Association of Letter Carriers. Survivors include his children, Tracy Camp (Daniel) of Reidville, SC, Zebulon Toney of Moore, SC, and Jeri Toney of Blue Ridge, SC; five grandchildren; and brothers, Edward L. Toney of Inman, SC and Harold L. Toney of Boiling Springs, SC. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a sister, Kathryn Gentry; and brother, Melvin L. Toney. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, December 9, 2015, at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel, 235 N. Church St., Spartanburg, SC 29306. A graveside service, with military rites, will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, December 10, 2015, in Westwood Memorial Gardens, 6101 Reidville Rd., Moore, SC 29369, by the Rev. Monty King. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Pathway Hospice, 355 Woodruff Road Suite 201, Greenville, SC 29607. The family is at their respective homes.
