James Tate

James Alvin Tate, 84, of Spartanburg, SC died Friday, July 27, 2018, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born February 4, 1934, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late William and Mamie Sprinkle Tate. James was retired from Georgia-Pacific as the plant manager. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Doris Martin Tate; son, Barry D. Tate of Campobello, SC; daughter, Pamela Michaels-Mangum (Paul) of Spartanburg, SC; granddaughter, Lorelei L. Rickards (Ryan) of Buford, GA; great grandchildren, Preston, Cadence, and Skylar; sisters, Carol Burnett, (Joe Ben) of Spartanburg, SC; Brenda Arthur (Wayne) of Spartanburg, SC; and sister-in-law, Betty Holland of Spartanburg, SC. Graveside service will be 11:00 AM Monday, July 30, 2018, in Sunset Memorial Park, 1955 Cannon Campground Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by the Rev. Fred S. Quidley. Visitation will follow at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 635 Gossett Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307 or Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
