James B. Swainson, Sr., 79, of Spartanburg, SC died Monday, April 25, 2022 at his home. Born February 6, 1943 in Akron, Ohio, he was the son of the late Cecil Burn and Enid Mayer Swainson.
A US Navy Vietnam veteran, Mr. Swainson was retired from Lockwood-Greene Engineering, now called CH2MHILL, in Corporate Business Development as photographer, and trade show manager. He attended Brevard Junior College in Cocoa, Florida.
He was former President of the Spartanburg Radio Controlled Airplanes (called Sky Knights), an avid golfer, an expert water skier, and member of Inman Lions Club.
A selfless man who was always willing to teach and share knowledge, a perfectionist, and who was devoted to his family. He was a member of First Baptist Church North Spartanburg.
Survivors include his wife, Anita Sue Foley Swainson of the home; his son, James “Jimmy” Burn Swainson, II (Lisa) of Spartanburg, SC, three grandsons, Coleman Burn Swainson (life partner, Chloe) of Roebuck, SC, Scott Calicutt of Boiling Springs, SC, and Jonah Stepp of Spartanburg, SC, a large number of nieces and nephews, and many beloved pets. He was also predeceased by a son, Jeffrey Alan Swainson.
Visitation will be 10:45 – 11:45 am Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Floyd’s Boiling Springs Chapel, 4161 Highway 9 North, Boiling Springs, SC 29316. A Memorial service will be at 12:00 noon, at the chapel, conducted by Chaplain Tracie Mayes Stewart.
The Upward Bound Sunday School Class will serve as Honorary Escort.
