James Clark Strait, 60, of Spartanburg, died Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born December 19, 1951, in Herkimer, NY, he was the son of the late James Clark and Joanne Dorothy Mosher Strait and of the Jewish faith. Mr. Strait was employed by the Army Corp of Engineers with the Superfund Project to clean toxic waste. He received his BS Degree from Columbia University where he was also a member of the Rifle Team. He went on to Georgia Tech to complete his graduate work and receive his MS Degree. He was also a pilot and member of a Flying Club. Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara Lynn Powers Strait; daughter, Elisabeth Ellen Clifford and husband Jason John of Orlando, FL; son, Liam Clark Strait of Spartanburg; grandchildren, Ethan Clark Clifford, Emmett Winfield Clifford, and Eloise Morgan Clifford; brother, Stephen Alan Strait of Palm City, FL; and sisters, Cynthia Claire Strait of Wendell, MA, and Susan Lee Sommerfield of Port St. Lucie, FL. A graveside service was conducted at 4:00 PM Friday, February 3, 2012, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, by Rabbi Yossi Liebowitz.
