James Steele

James Edward Steele, 84, of Greer, SC, died Monday, December 14, 2015, at NHC-Greenville. Born June 1, 1931, in Alva, KY, he was the son of the late Charles and Cora Miller Steele and husband of the late Irma Lou Sullivan Steele. A U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Steele was a duffer who loved to play the game of golf...his longest tee shot was a clump of grass. He retired from AT&T Communications and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. He was also a Mason and a member of Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church in Gaffney, SC. Survivors include his daughter, Ramona C. Phillips (Raymond) of Greer, SC; grandsons, Andrew Patrick Phillips (Hannah) and Thomas James Phillips; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a sister, Billie Ruth Steele; and four brothers, Adrian Steele, Siler Steele, Rondal Steele, and Charles Steele. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, December 17, 2015, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, by the Rev. Clyde Thomas. Burial, with military rites, will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Memorials may be made to Agape Hospice, 529 Mills Avenue, Greenville, SC 29605.
