James Theodore Shelton

James “Buzzy” Theodore Shelton, age 93, passed away after spending a beautiful day with his family, on Monday, March 25, 2024, in Spartanburg, SC. He was born on December 17, 1930, in Inman, SC and was the son of late Cecil and Maude Pack Shelton.  
 
He served during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army and was a member of the Inman American Legion.  James led a fulfilling life both professionally and personally. He earned his associate degree at Cecil's Business College and went on to have a successful career in the manufacturing industry. 
 
Aside from his professional accomplishments, James was known for his love for his family. Described as a devoted family man, he cherished spending time with his multi-generational family. He was an avid sportsman from his teenaged years onwards.  He loved to cheer on the Dorman Cavaliers every chance he got.  He played on the Inman Mills baseball teams and had a passion for square dancing with “The Spartan Spinners” which he enjoyed twice weekly until he turned 90.
 
James was a committed member of Church at The Mill where he served in the church community and attended faithfully with his family.
 
James is survived by his two daughters: Pam Pace (Gene) and Patti Hester (Mike). He is also survived by five grandchildren: Shelton Pace (Colby), Jaime Miller (Blake), Chandler Pace, Bethie Pace (Andrew), and Michal Goodwin (John David). Additionally, he leaves behind seven great-grandchildren: Raeleigh, Tyler, Mary Harper, Pace, Jennings, Hance, and Levi. James also leaves behind his loyal companion, Peaches.
 
 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Mary Mullinax Shelton.  He was also predeceased by his siblings, Glenn Shelton, Lois Collins, Helen Bradley and Judy Jones.

James Theodore Shelton will be remembered for his dedication to his Lord, family, his love for sports and dancing, and his service to his country. May he rest in peace.  

The family will be at the home of Mike and Patti Hester.  The graveside service for Buzzy will be private.  The family will receive friends from 11:30 am until 12:45 pm on Friday, April 12, 2024,  and the Celebration of Life will be held 1:00 pm at Church at the Mill Chapel.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Church at the Mill, Senior Adult Ministry, 4455 Anderson Mill Road, Moore, SC 29369.
