James Monroe Shealy, 91, of Spartanburg, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at his home. Born November 24, 1917, in Leesville, SC, he was the son of the late James Monroe and Jessie Mae Shealy and the husband of the late Joyce Elizabeth Graves Shealy. He was retired from Southern Railway with more than 30 years of service. He was a member of Spartanburg Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder and a member of the Men's Sunday School Class. He was also a member of Drayton Masonic Lodge where he was a 32nd degree Mason. Survivors include a son, Thomas M. Shealy and his wife Renea of Spartanburg; two daughters, Sarah Shealy Smith and her husband Andrew of Columbia, SC, and Dr. Candace Shealy Gosnell and her husband Jim Fowler of Lexington, KY; three brothers, Ray Shealy of Leesville, SC, Ed Shealy and Carroll Shealy, both of Lexington, SC; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Daisy Martin. Visitation will be 2:15-3:00 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2009, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Peter A. Waid. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Spartanburg Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 1801 Skylyn Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307; or to Vista Care Hospice, 4006 East North Street, Suite A, Greenville, SC 29615.
