James Sharpe

James Lynch Sharpe, 82, of Spartanburg, SC died Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at The Inverness at Spartanburg. Born April 5, 1938, in Spencer, NC, he was the son of the late John Hatley "Hap" and Elva Wood Sharpe. Mr. Sharpe was preceded in death by his son, James "Jimmy" Loren Sharpe on April 30, 1979 and by his wife of 43 years, Catherine Elizabeth "Betty" Crook Sharpe on March 13, 2003. A US Air Force veteran, Mr. Sharpe was a graduate of Spencer High School prior to entering the Air Force. He was a retired dispatcher with Duke Energy after 30 years of service and was a former member of the Shelby Jaycees. Mr. Sharpe's special interests were his family and friends. Survivors include his daughter, Susan Caroline Sharpe of Atlanta, GA; sister, Marrianne Sharpe Graham and husband, Gene Graham, and brother, John Hatley Sharpe Jr. all of Salisbury, NC; half-sister, Shirley Sharpe Hartis of Kannapolis, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 am Saturday, October 10, 2020 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by The Rev. Ken West. Masks and social distancing are required by the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Passion City Church, 515 Garson Drive NE, Atlanta, GA 30324.
