James Sawyer, Sr.

James Arthur Sawyer, Sr., 70, of Inman, SC, died Thursday, December 22, 2022 at his home. Born January 20, 1952, in Columbia, SC, he was the son of the late William Claude Sawyer, Sr. and Beulah Maggie Rainwater Sawyer.

James was retired from Carson’s Nut-Bolt & Tool Co. He was a member of Arcadia Masonic Lodge #285, Hillbilly Clan 2 and a Shriner. He loved to hunt, fish, birdwatch, and the Clemson Tigers. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Sara Ann Timmons Sawyer; their children, James Arthur Sawyer, Jr. (Donna) and Jennifer Ann Earle, of Roebuck, SC; three grandchildren, Hunt Sawyer, Braden Earley, and Brianna Earley; two special cousins that he thought of as grandchildren, Clay Moore (Jana) and Brittany Moore; his siblings, Tommy Sawyer (Sandy) of Boiling Springs, SC, Lovera Taylor (Dennis) of Boiling Springs, SC, and Sara Coates of Inman, SC; his brothers-in-law, Wayne Timmons (Joy), Gene Timmons (Darlene); sisters-in-law, Bobbie Timmons, Sue Hill and Lynne Sawyer; brother-in-law, Jimmy Benefield of Inman, SC. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by siblings, W.C. Sawyer, Jr., Geraldine Henderson, Louise Benefield and his brothers-in-law, David Timmons, Jerry Hill, James Timmons and Ray Henderson.

Visitation will be 7:00 – 9:00 pm Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral service will be at 12:00 pm Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at the chapel, conducted by The Rev. Rufus Chaneyworth and Eulogist, Mr. Scott Panther. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
