James Robinson

James G. “Papa Joe” Robinson, 94, of Arcadia, SC passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at home. Born February 2, 1929, he was the son of the late Joseph Lee and Pauline Wright Robinson.

Papa Joe retired as a supervisor with Mayfair Mills after 46 years of service. He was a member of Arcadia Baptist Church. He loved gardening, especially flowers, and animals. He was passionate about fishing and hunting. Papa Joe was very independent, generous, and hardworking. He was the most wonderful man and the perfect father; he was the rock of his family.

Survivors include his children, Brenda Ann Murrphy of Greenville, James V. Robinson (Renee) of Spartanburg, Sandra Messick (Arthur Wayne) of Glenn Springs, and Peggy Trotter (Roger) of Roebuck; sisters, Hazel Lawter of Dayton, Ohio and Alice Cobb of Blacksburg; eleven grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Wilma Louise Cooper Robinson; daughter, Rita Robinson; grandson, Corey Robinson; great-grandson, Carter Robinson; and sister, Kathleen Painter.

A graveside service will be 2:00 pm on Monday, February 13, 2023 in Sunset Memorial Park, 1955 Cannons Campground Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by The Rev. Glenn Taylor. Visitation will follow at the graveside.
