James Reel

James Wilton "Son" Reel, 89, of Spartanburg, died Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at White Oak Estates. Born December 30, 1920 in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Judson Franklin and Ellen Morris Reel. He retired from Duke Power Company after 30 years of service and was a U. S. Army Air Corps veteran. Mr. Reel was a member of Ben Avon United Methodist, the Jim Whitt Sunday School Class, the Barbershop Society, a charter member of the Palmetto Statesmen Chorus, and was a former member of Gramling United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Helen Scott Reel; a son, Jim Reel and wife Donna of Greenville, SC; a daughter, Beth R. Earle and husband Baxter of Spartanburg; five grandchildren, Gina Naylor and Teresa Hayes both of Spartanburg, Trey Earle of Mocksville, NC, Amy Taylor of Charlotte, NC, and Ben Reel of Greenville, SC; ten great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank Reel of Mt. Dora, FL; and a special nephew, Michael Reel of Ackworth, GA. He was predeceased by two sisters, Susie Reel Gosnell and Jane Reel Snite Martenson; and a brother, Harold J. Reel. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2010 at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jones Brewer and the Rev. Donald Hope. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Care of South Carolina, 110 Dillon Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307. The family is at their respective homes.
