James Desmond Pruitt, Jr. "Jim", 78, of Spartanburg, SC, died Friday, November 22, 2013 at White Oak Estates. Born November 24, 1934, in Los Angeles, CA, he was the son of the late James Desmond Pruitt, Sr. and Grace Simone Pruitt. Mr. Pruitt was a retired machinist at Mare Island Naval Shipyard, Vallejo, CA, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Spartanburg 1st Ward, a veteran of the U.S. Army, and enjoyed traveling in and out of California. He was an avid walker and loved his family and grandchildren; taking them individually to walk and then to eat. Then he would come back and take another grandchild and repeat the process until all had had their special time with him. He was an avid arm wrestler, called the last Boy Scout, and enjoyed college football, boxing, and classic cars. Surviving is his wife of 24 years, Janet Louise Simone Pruitt; sons, Dr. Jon Baker and wife Danyel of Knights Ferry, CA, Michael Baker and wife Tina of Modesto, CA, and Dr. Scott Baker and wife Cynthia of Spartanburg, SC; daughter, D. Huggins-Wolfe and husband Tim of Conway, SC; fourteen grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The family will have a family memorial service at a later date.
