James C. "Jimmy" Parham, 84, of Spartanburg, SC went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, March 7, 2021 at Spartanburg Medical Center after a brief illness. A native of Spartanburg, Jimmy was born July 9, 1936, the only child of the late Grace Lynch Parham and Weldon H. "Buck" Parham. He was married to the late Jean Grooms Parham. A graduate of Spartanburg High School class of 1956, Jimmy retired after 32 years with the City of Spartanburg Fire Department. He was a life-long member of Second Presbyterian Church and the men's Fellowship Class. Through the years he served in many capacities at the church, including serving as an Elder and with the Friday Morning Men's Group. He was the last surviving member of his family. A S.C. National Guard Veteran, Jimmy was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He especially enjoyed his weekly visits with The Lunch Bunch at the Beacon Drive-in, which he shared with many life-long friends with whom he went to school and graduated with. Surviving are two nephews, John A. Grooms (Dawn) of Inman and David S. Grooms (Kaitlin) of Simpsonville; brother-in-law, Oscar "Max" Grooms (Carolyn) of Boiling Springs; four sisters-in-law, Christine Grooms Rogers of Sumter, SC, Freida Grooms Dorhman (Ted) of Clearwater, FL, Marsha Grooms Farrell of Cherryville, NC and Rheba Grooms Tolleson (Wayne) of Boiling Springs and two great-nephews, three great-nieces and one great-great-nephew. Jimmy is also survived by additional extended family of seven nephews, three nieces and numerous other great-nephews and nieces. The family is at their respective residences. Graveside services will be held 4:30 PM Friday, March 19, 2021 in Nazareth Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 680 Nazareth Church Road, Moore, SC 29369. Honorary escort will be the Spartanburg Fire Department Employees. Visitation will follow at the graveside. Guests are requested to wear masks and practice social distancing.
