James Smith

James P. Smith, 97, of Eastham, MA, died Sunday, October 2, 2011, at Liberty Commons Nursing Home in N. Chatham, MA. Born March 1, 1914, in Hughesville, PA, he was the son of the late Paul and Frances Weaver Smith, and husband for 62 years of the late Isabelle Jeannette Clough Smith. Mr. Smith was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge, and a machinery salesman for the textile industry. He attended Westchester State Teachers College in Westchester, PA. He lived in Spartanburg for 50 years. Survivors include his daughter, Linda M. Barnard of Eastham, MA with whom he lived; a son, Roger A. Smith and his wife Michelle of Austin, TX; a grandson, James R. Barnard of Eastham, MA; two sisters-in-law; one niece; and three nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, October 14, 2011, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, by the Rev. Frank E. Lybrand.
