James Murphy, Jr.

James Monroe "Jim" Murphy Jr., 65, of Duncan, SC, died Thursday, December 26, 2013, at Village Hospital-Greer, SC. Born September 27, 1948, in Cambridge, MD, he was the son of the late James Monroe Murphy Sr. and Dorothy Mason Murphy. A graduate of Cambridge-Dorchester High School and the University of Virginia, Mr. Murphy was a licensed professional engineer and the owner of Computer Doc. He retired from Duke Power after 32 years of service and was a member of Tyger River Presbyterian Church, Moore, SC. Jim was a brilliant man who was respected by many. He was compassionate, considerate, honest, and fair. He will be missed by all, especially his grandson Blake. "Papa" was his very best friend. Survivors include his beloved wife, Kathy Bullman Murphy; son, Sean Murphy (Michelle) of La Plata, MD; step-son, Bo Jackson of Duncan, SC; grandchildren, Blake Jackson, Catherine Murphy, Christopher Murphy, Emily Murphy, and Allison Murphy; sister, Bev Dayton of Cambridge, MD; and brother, Donnie McDaniel (Phyllis) of Easton, MD. Visitation will be 2:00-2:45 PM Sunday, December 29, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Chuck Thornton and several family members. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Memorials may be made to Spartanburg Day School Annual Fund, 1701 Skylyn Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307. The family is at the home of Kathy Murphy.
