Cdr. James Miller (retired), formerly of Virginia Beach, VA and most recently residing at White Oak Estates in Spartanburg, SC, died on July 16, 2016. Born March 28, 1922, in Lynbrook, NY, he was the son of Martin R. and Magdalena M. Stuttig Miller. Jim graduated from Malverne High School, Malverne, NY, joined the Naval Reserve in 1939, graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1943, and earned an MBA from George Washington University in 1956. During World War II, Jim participated in the South Pacific operations on the USS Conway. He retired from the Navy in 1965 and from VA Chemicals in 1984. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ann Nesbitt Miller, a native of Cordele, GA, whom he met in Jacksonville, FL after graduation and married after the war. Additionally, he is survived by his son, James N. Miller and daughter-in-law June M. Miller of Spartanburg, SC; daughter, Kathryn A. Ritchie of Mechanicsville, VA; grandchildren, James T. Miller; Jeffrey A. Miller (Danielle); Jacob P. Ritchie; Jessica R. Sutton (Jeremy); and five great grandchildren. Along with his parents, he is also predeceased by a brother Martin Miller; sisters, Edna Eldred and Grace Stegeman. A service and interment will be held at a later date at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. The J. F.
