James Kirby

James Black "J. B." Kirby, 89, of the White Stone Community, died at his home on Friday, October 12, 2012. Born October 4, 1923, in Spartanburg County, he was the husband of Jennie Ruth Kirby and the son of the late Forest Lee and Clyde Rollins Kirby. Mr. Kirby was a graduate of Pacolet High School. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines. He was retired from Community Cash Stores after over 60 years of service. Mr. Kirby was a member of White Stone United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities. He was also a life member of the Glendale Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his wife, Jennie Ruth Kirby; three daughters, Tina Holmes of Spartanburg, SC, Elaine Ferraro and husband John of Columbia, SC, and Ruth Schoonover and husband Bruce of Spartanburg, SC; six grandchildren, Michael Holmes, Sandra Brewer, Christen Zeleznik, Emily Ferraro, James Schoonover, John Schoonover; and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Mildred K. Mathis; and a brother, Forest L. Kirby, Jr. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM Sunday, October 14, 2012, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Reverend Karen Upson and the Reverend Don Upson. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are Michael Holmes, James Schoonover, John Schoonover, Russell West, Allen McCallister, Ronnie Griffin, Buddy Kirby, and Barry Kirby. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to White Stone United Methodist Church, PO Box 770, White Stone, SC 29386. The family is at the home.
