James Dillard "J.D." Bishop

September 2, 1936 — October 23, 2024

James Dillard (J. D.) Bishop, 88 of Spartanburg, died Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Brushy Creek Post Acute. A native of Stone Station, he was born on September 2, 1936, a son of the late Walter Warren and Eva Mae Pye Bishop, and husband of 67 years to the late Judith (Judy) Casey Bishop.

He was a graduate of Roebuck High School and served in the US Army. He was a member of EL Bethel United Methodist Church where he served as chairman of the Board of Trustees, church treasurer, a member of the Jerry Walker United Methodist Men’s Club where he cooked for their monthly meetings for many years and participated in the Seniors in Action group. He retired from Hammond-Brown-Jennings Furniture Store after 50 years of service, was manager of the Goodwill store and was serving as vice president of the company when he retired.

Surviving are his son, Jamie Bishop (Kerry) of Spartanburg; daughter, Teresa Bishop Pazur (Scott) of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Katie Pazur (Caroline), Emily Pazur, and Maggie Pazur; brother, Charles Bishop (Mildred) of Inman. He was predeceased by a sister, Ruby Lee Quinn.

Visitation will be from 9:30 am to 10:30 am on Monday, October 28, 2024, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am in the chapel conducted by the Rev. Phillip Park and Rev. Jack Caldwell. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Love Fund at EL Bethel United Methodist Church, 820 South Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306.
