James Horton, Sr.

James Pierce Horton Sr., 90, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, January 20, 2014, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born January 29, 1923, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Alton Hosea Horton Sr. and Bertha Ora Cantrell Horton. A U. S. Navy veteran, Mr. Horton was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg and a member of the Pastor's Sunday School Class. He was a former member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church and retired from Community Cash Stores. Survivors include his loving wife, Naomi Hodge Horton; son, James Pierce Horton Jr. (Linda) of Manassas, VA; step-children, Connie McCallister (Allen) and Gloria Sill (Rodney), all of Spartanburg, SC, Ann Crocker (Randy), Phyllis Parker (Wayne), and Joey Belue, all of Boiling Springs, SC; three grandchildren, James P. Horton III, John David Horton, and Jeffrey Michael Horton; 13 step-grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Carol Virginia Brooks Horton; five brothers; one sister; and a stepson. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, January 23, 2014, in Davis Chapel at First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, by the Rev. Sal Barone and the Rev. Bill Adams. Burial, with military rites by the SC State Guard Honors Team, will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Visitation will follow at the graveside.
